GOODWOOD BARC Meetings

Initially, in 1912 the Cyclecar Club was formed for the racing of motorbike powered vehicles at Brooklands racetrack, but after the First World War ended the appeal of cyclecars was replaced by a greater interest in faster cars leading to a change of name to the Junior Car Club. By 1921 a 200-mile race was staged at Brooklands but, at the same time, a series of regional races were held. After the Second World War ended Brookland Automobile Racing Club changed its name to the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) in 1948 when the inaugural races were staged on the newly formed Goodwood circuit on Saturday 18th September 1948, with the Duke of Richmond leading a cavalcade in his new Bristol car. For the next 18 years BARC organised at least one race at Goodwood annually, with selected results shown below.
